Is Plan B Birth Control Going to Become Plan A?
Today the new over-the-counter version of the morning after pill has hit pharmacies shelves nationwide. “Planned Parenthood celebrated Wednesday with a free giveaway of the emergency contraceptive, while critics insisted that Plan B's accessibility will soon be a cause for regret” the Washington Post reports. Plan B which is manufactured by Bar Pharmaceutical is a higher dose of the same drug found in many birth control pills. The pill lowers the risk of pregnancy by 89 percent if taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Although it is available over the counter to girls 18 and older, a prescription is still required for those 17 and below. Since being approved for over-the-counter sales in August, there has been much debate over Plan B. Supporters argue that over the counter sale will reduce the number of pre-teen, teen, and unwanted pregnancies. They also hope that it will cut down on the number of abortions. Results however, may have a more detrimental affect. Over-the-counter use may increase promiscuity and unprotected sex, which could very well lead to an increase of sexually transmitted diseases. Some independent pharmacies have decided not to carry Plan B and some pharmacists working for large pharmacies do not want to sell it do to moral objections. A CVS pharmacist who has qualms about selling Plan B must arrange for another employee to sell it, and the pharmacist must ensure that the customer "is served promptly and treated with respect," the company told the Washington Post. Prices for Plan B range from 30 to 60 dollars. Plan B is now widely available at most pharmacies and drug stores. This information was provided by Premier Mexican Pharmacy.com. Conceiving A Baby And Conception Positions
Conceiving a baby successfully means understanding the best conception positions, your monthly reproductive cycle and your overall health. Conceiving a baby and pregnancy are wonderful events that are complex but very satisfying and exciting. Here are tips on the best conception positions and getting pregnant:

1. Know your fertile time - in general, ovulation occurs about 14 days before your next period begins. For women with cycles of 28 days, that could make day #14 your most fertile for getting pregnant (day #1 being the first day that your last period began). If your have a 30-day cycle, day #16 may be the best time to go for it.

2. Monitor your basal body temperature - the slight elevations in your body temperature when you awake each day signal your most fertile time. When conceiving a baby is the goal, use a basal thermometer that is accurate enough to detect these slight changes in your body temperature.

3. Monitor your cervical mucus - ovulation causes a change in the appearance and consistency of cervical mucus. By checking yourself each day, you'll be able to see the 'egg-white-like' vaginal discharge that indicates ovulation and your most fertile time for conceiving a baby.

4. The best of the conception positions is the missionary position - the time-proven 'man-on-top' position works with gravity to encourage semen flow toward the uterus that maximizes the chance of a sperm uniting with the egg, causing conception.

5. Use the rear-entry position - another of the conception positions is the 'doggy-style', which allows your partner to deposit semen close to your cervix.

6. Use the side-by-side position - again, this position allows your partner's sperm to start their journey as near your cervix as is possible. For all three conception positions mentioned, after ejaculation, you can remain on your back with your legs bent a few minutes to further maximize semen flow toward the uterus.

7. Adopt a healthy lifestyle - this is one of the most important tips for conceiving a baby. Healthy living includes a sensible diet, nutritional supplements, adequate quality sleep, managing stress, some exercise and weight management. Another of the conceiving a baby tips is to simply relax and enjoy your partner. Enjoy the closeness you'll experience with someone you truly care about.

And your desire for becoming pregnant and conceiving a baby will have even more importance to you if it means you'll be taking better care of yourself and your partner. Not only does that mean a more healthy you, it also means you'll increase the chances of having a healthier baby. That's the kind of beginning you want to provide that new person that you know is going to be a star.

The Symptoms of Pregnancy with Twins
If your pregnancy symptoms are earlier and more pronounced than you'd normally expect, you may be carrying a twin pregnancy. However, only a health professional can tell for sure. 1. You just feel that you are carrying more than one baby. Some mothers of twins (or higher order multiples) say that they knew right from the start that they were carrying more than one baby. 2. You experience more nausea and/or morning sickness. If you are having more than one baby, you may have an elevated hCG level (hCG is a pregnancy related hormone). This hormone is the one associated with morning sickness. 3. Other typical pregnancy symptoms may be exaggerated. Many women -- but not all -- who are pregnant with twins have more intense pregnancy symptoms, probably related to the extra hormones circulating through their system. You may find that your breasts are extremely tender, you have to urinate frequently, you are hungry all the time and you are always very tired. 4. A higher than average weight gain in the first 16 weeks may be your first clue that you're carrying more than one baby. Good weight gain in early twin pregnancy is associated with a favourable outcome. With each additional fetus a woman carries, the range of weight gain will increase. For example, a woman who starts a pregnancy in a healthy weight range might expect her weight gain to be as follows: One fetus, 11 kg (24 lb) to 16 kg (35 lb) Twins, 16 kg (35 lb) to 20 kg (44 lb) Triplets, 20 kg (44 lb) to 23 kg (51 lb) Quads, 23 kg (51 lb) to 25 kg (55 lb) 5. Your uterus seems large for gestational age. If your last menstrual period indicates an eight-week gestation, your uterus may feel more like 10 to 12 weeks to your obstetrician. This may prompt a request for an ultrasound examination. 6. You are told that you have elevated levels of AFP. AFP is one of the chemicals tested to screen for Down’s syndrome and spina bifida abnormalities. AFP levels are higher in twin pregnancies. 7. Your health care provider hears two fetal heartbeats. Two separate heartbeats can be distinguishable with a Doppler in your care provider's office from around 18 weeks. At around 28 weeks, it may be possible to differentiate two fetal heads and multiple small parts when doing an abdominal exam. 8. You have a positive ultrasound. If you believe you are pregnant with twins, an ultrasound can be performed quite early in pregnancy. With a skilled ultrasonographer, two gestational sacs, two embryos and two distinct fetal heartbeats can be seen six weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period. Many twins have been diagnosed as early as five weeks -- when you're just one week late for your menstrual period. 9. In later pregnancy, you may experience difficulty catching your breath, swelling (oedema) of the hands and legs, an unusual rate of weight gain and abdominal enlargement and excessive fetal movement. Anaemia or low iron (decreased haemoglobin) is also common with twin and multiple pregnancies. 10. There is considerable disagreement among medical professionals as to whether a woman carrying twins is more likely to feel movement earlier. But many mothers do claim that those early flutters and flips were their first clue that they might be having more than one.

Women’s Reproductive Health is as Important as Other Aspects of Her Health
Women’s reproductive health is often as important as other aspects of their health and they need to gain a better perspective of their reproductive system to enable them to understand just how sensitive their reproductive organs really are. A woman who becomes concerned with women’s reproductive health may need to understand how her hormones as well as organs come together to produce a monthly cycle. Women’s reproductive health is also dependent on the diet they consume because the food that they intake will impact and influence their reproductive system’s functioning. Need to Understand how Hormones and Organs Function Together A woman’s system often goes out of control and this would affect their menstrual cycle and lead to their not becoming pregnant. To ensure those women’s reproductive system stays in sync, women need to get regular pap smears. An abnormal smear test often causes distress and fear among women even though it is not necessarily a sign of cancer or risking developing it in the future. Since cervical cancer is the second most common cancer other than breast cancer, taking a smear test is vital as it helps identify early warning signs of possible cancer and also lead to halting further growth of cervical cancer. Cancer is destructive of women’s reproductive health and apart from cervical cancer; women may also have to contend with uterine cancer or ovarian cancer. In addition, she may also get ovarian cysts, chronic pelvic pain as well as fibroids. That is not to imply that women’s reproductive health is only centered on the pelvic region because even the breasts are an important part of the women’s reproductive system which enables the woman to breast feed her children for years or just months. The risk of contracting breast cancer is a serious worry to women’s reproductive health which may cause damage to the breasts and lead to infertility. In the case of a woman who has had mastectomy it may be rather disconcerting to have just one breast, but using reconstructive surgery, it is now possible to have both breasts back again. Other major causes of worry to women’s reproductive health are when the reproductive system gets affected by infections such as yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis even though these are treatable conditions. However, pelvic inflammatory disease can cause scarring and even infertility if not treated in time. Thus, it is important for women to get to their doctors and keep their health in check.

Essential Nutrients for Women's Health
Different nutrients are needed in the right amount to attain a good nutritional status. The amount of each nutrient needed in a day is known as the nutritional requirement. What is RDA? Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) refers to the amount of nutrients that need to be consumed daily to ensure the nutritional requirement of the body. The recommended level depends upon how much of the nutrients are absorbed from a given diet and utilized by the body. Everyone needs good nutrition, but the needs for specific nutrients can vary depending on individual factors like: Age: An adult requires more total calories than a child due to larger size of the body. A child needs more nutrients on unit body size basis to meet growth and body composition requirements. Sex: Females require fewer calories than males as their metabolic rate is slower and size of the body is smaller. Physical work: Sedentary workers require less calories and B-vitamins than active individuals. Physiological stress: The requirement for nutrients is increased during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Recommended Dietary Allowance for Indian Women (Moderately Active) Nutritional needs of women vary at different stages of her life. Adequate nutrition before and during pregnancy and breastfeeding in women has greater potential for a long-term health impact not only in them, but also in the progeny, than it does at any other time. The recommended daily nutritional and energy requirement for pregnant and breastfeeding women is greater than that of nonpregnant and nonlactating women. Breastfeeding - How Important Is It?
Years ago, perhaps when you were a child, breastfeeding was not very popular. Breastfeeding was not encouraged as it is in todays society. Doctors didn't fully grasp how important and beneficial it is for a newborn baby. Because of this, and a few other reasons, there were many new mothers that went directly to feeding with the bottle, most often new mothers didn't even try to breastfeed their new baby. Breastfeeding helps protect and nurture your baby in innumerable ways. There have been many studies in regard to breastfeeding babies and the results have shown increases in brainpower within as little as six weeks of breastfeeding. The study has also shown a reduced risk of obesity due to the fact that breastfed babies are much less likely to overeat than formula-fed babies. Overall, babies that have been breastfed for roughly six months are also less likely to have breathing problems. We now know how nourishing breast milk is for your baby. Breastfeeding is highly recommended by doctors as well as health care professionals. Further, it's been shown that breast milk supports brain function as stated above and also provides valuable nutrients that would not otherwise be available. Breast milk is very special, every mother's milk is slightly different, tailored to her own baby's needs. A baby's immune system is directly affected by the breast milk of his/her mother. Every feeding time is an extremely important time of the day, it allows the mother and baby time to bond to each other without any distractions. A new mother will really get to know her baby by breastfeeding and will feel much more at ease with him or her during breastfeeding. Milk induced sleep is one of the most wonderful things a mother will experience. Newborns love to be cuddled and they also love to eat. When you combine the two you get an extremely sleepy baby who will snuggle up in their mother's arms long after the feeding is over. Breastfeeding will instill a naptime but you'll find yourself continuing to rock your precious little one, it's calming to mother as well. Babies have a built-in latching instinct, although some babies will not latch properly, causing pain to the mother. You'll detect these problems early on and you'll find that most hospitals have a nursing specialist that will help to determine if your baby is latching on wrong. If you continue to have problems in this area in the first week, you should consult with your doctor. With a little practice you'll be a pro in no time! Hang in there, It's worth it! Breast milk is not only good for your baby, but it's also good for the mother as well. It has been stated that Mother's who breast-feed their babies for at least six months have shown a dramatical reduction in the risk of various types of cancer including breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Another happy note... through breast-feeding, new mother's will also lose the additional weight she gained while pregnant, and another benefit is that it will also help her uterus contract to its pre-baby size. All new parents want to give their babies the very best and when it comes to nutrition, the very best "first food" for baby is breast milk. Although you may experience a few challenges at first while breastfeeding; it will be the best experience a new mother will have. There may even come a time later in life when you look back on this wonderful experience and wish that you had breast fed your baby longer.

Barrier Contraceptives - Making Your Choice
There are a number of barrier contraceptive methods available in the market. In order to make it easy for you choose the one that best suits you, let me explain the ins and outs of some of the most effective methods in this regard.

Diaphragm
Diaphragm is a dome-shaped silicone or latex cup with a flexible rim. Women can use it by coating the inside and the outer edge of the diaphragm with spermicide, and inserting the same into her vagina before the intercourse. The diaphragm works effectively, as its dome covers the cervix and blocks sperm. The benefit of using the same is that it can be inserted before as much as six hours before intercourse, and can stay there for up to 24 hours.

Cervical Cap
Cervical cap is a thimble-shaped silicon or latex cup with a firm round rim, smaller than a diaphragm. It also works almost the same way as diaphragm. Women can use it by coating its inside with spermicide, and inserting the same into the vagina before the intercourse. Cervical cap works by blocking sperm, as it fits snugly around the base of the cervix. Like diaphragm, women can insert it into the vagina up to six hours prior to intercourse, but it can stay there for up to 72 hours as compared to the 24 hours in case of using diaphragm.

Male Condoms
Commonly known as rubbers, male condoms are Polyurethane or latex sheath that is used to cover the penis. You can also find male condoms with lubricant or spermicide added. Men can use it by placing the same on their penis before intercourse. It works by blocking the passage of sperm and eventually prevents pregnancy. The best thing with male condoms is that they do not require any prescription. These are easily available everywhere, and are an inexpensive method to provide the best protection against STIs and HIV. However, in comparison to latex condoms, Polyurethane condoms are much better and safer. The reason is latex condoms are used with limited types of lubricants, such as, KY, Astrogilde, etc.

Female Condom
Shaped like a sock with flexible rings at each end, a female condom is a soft, loose-fitting polyurethane sheath. Women can use it by placing it inside the vagina, where the ring at the closed end holds the pouch in place, while the ring at the open end remains outside. Like male condoms, the biggest advantage of using a women condom is that it effectively protects against STIs and HIV. What is more, women can insert it up to eight hours prior to intercourse.

Spermicide
Available as a gel, foam, cream, film, suppository or tablet, spermicide is a chemical that is available in different doses and concentrations and it works by killing the sperm membrane. Alone or with a vaginal barrier method, spermicide can be used either way. The biggest advantage of using the same is that it provides moderate protection from STI infection.

Now that you know some of the most effective Barrier Contraceptives, you can easily make your choice.

Breast Feeding Diet: How to Safely Lose Weight While Breast Feeding
Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body under goes drastic change and also weight gain. One of the first concerns of new mothers is to lose the weight they have gained during pregnancy. Even though this is a valid concern mothers must follow a diet that provides plenty of nutrition to the baby while breast feeding. Once a woman has delivered she is usually eager to regain her pre pregnancy weight. The joy of having a child is wonderful, but the change in figure and weight can be difficult to handle. Normally after child birth there is an initial weight loss of ten pounds but the remaining weight may be more difficult to lose. For women who are breastfeeding there is a concern over dieting and keeping the nutritional levels necessary to support both the infant and mother. The most important point to focus on is a healthy diet that will be nutritious for both the mother and child. There are important tips to take into consideration if you are concerned with the weight gain during pregnancy and after. To insure that a minimal amount of weight is gained during pregnancy it is important to maintain a healthy diet during pregnancy. While pregnant, consuming the proper amounts of protein, carbohydrates and vegetables will result in a healthier mother and baby. Proper nutrition also provides increased energy and optimal health during child birth and after the baby is born. Calorie Intake Some experts recommend that breastfeeding mothers need an additional 500 calories in their diets. Recent research has shown that this may not be required. The important thing for breastfeeding and dieting women is that they get enough of the food groups and the essential nutrients to support both their baby and themselves. A woman should be able to eat a normal calorie diet and successfully breastfeed at the same time as she loses weight. Fluid Intake For both breastfeeding and dieting a woman needs to make sure she is getting enough fluids. A woman who does not take in enough fluids will not be able to make breast milk and will not be able to burn the fat to lose weight effectively. A breastfeeding woman needs to drink both water and milk for the best success in these areas. Avoid Rapid Weight Loss It is well known that rapid weight loss is not the best way to lose weight and this is especially true when breastfeeding. When a person loses weight too fast they are usually losing muscle and tissue rather than fat. The loss of these tissues will cause a build up of toxins in the dieter and in the case of a nursing mother these toxins may be secreted in the breast milk causing harm to the baby. A breastfeeding and dieting mother should only try to only lose one to two pounds a week. This may not seem like a lot of weight but over a couple of months most women will see all the extra pregnancy weight disappear. Seek Advice The most important thing for a breastfeeding and dieting woman is to seek the advice of her doctor and the baby’s pediatrician. Every mom and baby has individual needs and a doctor can identify these needs and recommend the best possible course for addressing the needs. What is most important for the mom and baby is that they both get all the nourishment they need to provide for the most important times in their lives.
